Next Time You Relax In A Nylon Mayan Hammock, Think About Polluted Air

Nobody likes to think about breathing in polluted air. You’d rather think about swinging in a deluxe Mayan hammock on a breezy day with the sun shining right? But the truth is, green living is important now and for future generations.

Air pollution effects us in many ways and has many causes. Just how badly each individual is harmed by pollution will depend on the duration of exposure, as well as the level of that exposure. These together, are referred to as the ‘total exposure’ to the pollution.

Elderly people as well as children usually are more harmed by the effects of air pollution than a healthy adult. It is also dangerous for people with asthma or lung disease to be exposed to air pollution. People know that pollution is harmful and could even kill you, but the benefits we get from activities causing pollution, often outweigh the potential harm in our minds. It is not until we have felt the effects of air pollution personally that we begin to be concerned with fixing the problem.

The short term effects of air pollution have probably harmed you already without you realizing it.

Some of the short term effects include:

* irritation to the nose
* irritation in the throat
* irritation to the eyes

Some more serious effects include:

* bronchitis
* respiratory infections
* pneumonia

You might have gotten these problems from polluted air and didn’t even realize it. You probably only think the effects of air pollution include the long term effects like lung cancer, and respiratory disease. So then you might have never realized that the last time you had a respiratory infection it was caused by dirty air.

Although the long term effects of air pollution are much more serious you are being harmed by air pollution every time you breathe in something you shouldn’t. When the long term effects start to harm you, it is much too late to start thinking about how to cut back on air pollution. These terrible problems include lung cancer, chronic respiratory disease, heart disease, and organ damage.

The organ damage can happen to your lungs, brain, nerves, kidneys, and liver. One very preventable way of polluting the air includes smoking cigarettes. Many people die each year, before their time, because of smoking cigarettes. When someone smokes around children, they can damage their lungs even before they are fully developed. Smoking and other air pollution can harm the elderly, and irritate their already present medical conditions. All of the human related sources of air pollution can be prevented, if we all keep trying to find ways to do what we need to do, without polluting the air we breathe.
So next time you lace up your tactical boots and head off to work, think about the air you breathe, and what you are putting into it.

Protect Your Credit If You Have Been Exposed By This Identity Theft Ring

In August, 2008, CNN reported on the largest case of identity theft in the United States. According to reports, more than 100million credit card numbers were stolen by an international ring that hacked into the computer networks of nine national retail chains, including Barnes & Noble, TJX Cos, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and OfficeMax.

In most States, by law, when a data breach occurs, a company is required to send a letter to notify customers of their possible exposure, said Steve Ely, a divisional president for credit monitoring company Equifax Inc. In the article from CNN, Ely said companies often downplay the problem to minimize damage to their reputation. “Ninety-nine percent of the time breach letters look like a piece of junk mail, and people throw them away.”

And indictments like those announced in August aren’t likely to prevent your data from getting into the hands of other criminals, warned Paul Stephens, director of policy and advocacy at Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, a nonprofit in San Diego.

“Even though they may have found the individuals,” said Stephens, “that is no guarantee that that information is not out there and available to people to use for fraudulent purchases.”

Everyone should follow these simple steps. Carry as few credit cards as possible, and leave your Social Security card at home. Never give out personal information by phone, mail or on the Internet unless you initiated the exchange and are clear who you are dealing with. Use a cross cut shredder to shred all private information.

Other important steps include emptying your mailbox as soon as possible; shredding or tearing up any identifying information before discarding them. Also make sure Web sites used for online purchases are secure, one good sign is that the URL changes from http to https.

Also, you should limit or eliminate the use of debit or check cards linked to bank accounts, especially online. You should also regularly monitor your credit file. You can do this by ordering your free credit report each year but for better protection could include daily monitoring through a credit monitoring service.

Federal law forced each of the three national credit reporting companies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, to provide consumers with one free credit report each year. These free reports can be obtained at http://www.annualcreditreport.com or by mail. Many people recommend rotating requests among the three bureaus, obtaining a report every four months.

You may also want to, consider paying for a identity theft protection service. They are often the right choice for identity protection..

Though many identity protection companies offer similar services they are not all the same. One of the best identity theft protection services is TrustedID. Their system simply works, it is like having your own private security guard on duty 24/7 to protect your good name and credit.

I strongly encourage you to take a few simple steps to protect yourself from this crime, which affects as many as 8 million Americans each year, costing billions of dollars and countless hours to correct the problems it creates.
