How To Leash Train Your Feline

Cats are notoriously curious animals who love the great outdoors, but letting them wander isn’t always an option. If you live in an area with lots of traffic or a local population of feral cats, both can pose great danger to your pet. If you’re willing to provide supervision, then walking your cat can be a good solution. Since cats are often less cooperative than dogs, however, you’re going to need to invest some time into training your independent feline before escorting it outside. Tips

*Start as soon as your cat has been weaned–generally around six or seven weeks of age. Young kittens are more receptive to a leash and if your cat grows up walking on one it will become second nature.

* Let the cat become comfortable with the harness. Start by laying the harness by him or placing it in his bed so he gets used to the leash and learns to think of it as something familiar. Then, after a week, place it on the cat for short periods of time until no longer objects to wearing it. - Be patient if your cat panics and tries to hide. This will be more common for cats who aren’t used to being outside. Wait for it to calm down, then gently urge it out of its hiding spot.

*Let your cat walk on its own terms. Cats are finicky creatures by nature, and cannot be forced into walking with you; let the cat set the pace, if you can. Don’t forget who is the owner, and who’s the pet.

*It can be helpful to hold the cat while walking it for a while; this helps the cat get used to the route.

*If you want to have playtime for your cat in the backyard make sure the leash is too short to hop over the fence (see Warnings) and never leave the cat alone.

*You could also make the garden cat-friendly and fenced off so the cat can play safely without the leash. This can be done without very much visible interference to your garden.

A very good way to train them is by giving them rewards after they exhibit good behavior. Do not present the dinner as the reward for the cat. A reward must be in small amounts and should never be substituted for its dinner. Read More On »training the cat on the leash

Cheap Moving Trucks Can Help Cut Costs when Moving with Pets

Moving is never fun. Moving with a pet is an absolute disaster. Unless of course, you can get a person to take your animal while you relocate. In my case, that wasn’t a choice. I first needed to find a moving truck rental company. I had to move long distance and I could not do this without one. It took me a while to find one that met my needs. I looked on the Internet for cheap moving trucks and the results were too many. I ended up finding one after seeing a billboard that read, “truck rentals for moving”. I called the number and they had the lowest price and just the size of truck that I needed.

When the moving began, I had to choose a place for my cat so she would not run away. I took her upstairs and locked her and her food and liter in my room. That allowed me to take all the boxes and furniture from the downstairs into the truck. Now this was a relocation that I started on Friday and I was not thinking on leaving until early Sunday morning. So my cat had to live in my bedroom for almost two days. Having her food and liter in there was not something I cared for. However, it was something that had to be done. If she had stayed downstairs, she would have definitely got out and then I would have had to spend time looking for her.

After the downstairs was loaded, I had to then relocate my cat. I took her to the basement along with her food and liter. She stayed down there while I moved the upstairs to my home. The same process ensued. On Sunday morning the loading was complete and I was ready to pull out. The fun part was about to begin.

Four hours in a truck with my cat was not a fun experience. She cried for almost two hours. She was getting car sick and I could not handle it. I called my vetrinarian and she said I should be giving the cat the shot she had given me. She told me it was in the best interests of my cat if she was asleep. So I injected my cat and she went to sleep. I finally arrived and my cat was still asleep while I started to move my stuff into my new home. It was not an easy move, but it was something that needed to be completed and I am happy it is over with.

A Nanny Cam For My Pet

I’ve been contemplating the purchase of a nanny cam in order to keep an eye on my cat. She often goes to play in the next room while I work in my home office. When she goes quiet, I can’t be sure if she has curled up in a sleepy ball or if she’s chewing on my network cables. Oh, yes: many a time I’ve had a sudden drop-out and spent an hour pinging the DNS provider and reconfiguring my router, only to find that my precious darling had sliced clean through the Ethernet cable with her sharp little teeth.

I rarely see her doing it, but I don’t have to catch her on camera in order to know it was her. The evidence is plain. There are sporadic toothmarks all along the cable, and at one point there’s a whole patch of them where the sleeve gets frayed, until I can finally see the bare gleam of copper where my cat has cut the Cat-5. That’s what the cable is called, n00bs. The full name is Category 5 Ethernet Cable, shortened to Cat-5. No wonder the cat enjoys gnawing on it. Actually, I do wonder why she doesn’t prefer to gnaw on something more natural, such as the soft leather tongue of a shoe or the fuzzy terry-cloth belt of my bathrobe. What is it about Cat-5 cable that so appeals to my cat? It must resemble something in nature that cats like to chew on, but what? A delicious snake? A beanstalk?

I want to get a spy nanny cam with a live feed to my computer desktop. I could have a window open in a corner of the screen while I’m working in the center. I can just see myself typing away in one window on some HTML, then I click over to the other window and there’s my cat looking cute on camera. Now that’s what I call multitasking!
